
- 1967 - born in Boston, Massachusetts to proud parents Gregory and Anastasia Arzoumanidis
- 1974 - experienced design for the first time by making paper pop-up greeting cards.
- 1988 - while studying international relations at the University of Chicago, writes her masters thesis on southern African indigenous culture. The research introduces Sophia to the world of ancient tribal jewelry, her greatest influence.
- 1990 - joins the US Peace Corps, teaching English to Hungarian schoolchildren. Sophia travels to several bead factories in Eastern Europe and Russia, visiting newly opened markets.
- 1997 - back in Chicago, begins to exhibit in juried art shows. More and more specialty stores carry Sophia’s line.
- 2000 - Featured on CNN. Sophia Forero Designs expands to Atlanta.
- 2002 - competes with hundreds of designers to win Marshall Field’s Distinction in Design award. Attends first formal trade show In New York. WWD and Lucky magazine spotlight Sophia.
- 2003 - appears on television with star stylist Phillip Bloch. Business grows to 200 doors, with showrooms in 4 US regions.
- 2005 - honored by Fashion Group International’s Style Makers and Rule Breakers award. Sophia’s pieces appear on the red carpet, and in several feature films including Shopgirl.
- 2006 - Expands to Europe, now to 300 doors. Sophia travels to Haiti to create line that directly supports Friends of the Children of Haiti, a group that offers medical relief to those in desperate need. All proceeds of the collection go to the cause.
- 2007 - Sophia ventures to India and explores adornment across the globe.
